Departure Day

It's a beautiful morning for a bike ride! We're leaving Awanui at 8.30 heading north up the highway and should be at the Cape about 10. Everything's organised, the bike's ready, the mind is ready and the legs feel good. I haven't exercised since the weekend so I'm feeling a bit wound up and ready to unleash - must keep reminding myself "it's not a race Mark".

  9. Hey Mark. This morning's NZ Herald reports that the Hauraki Cycle Trail won't be finished for a while yet, so no rush to get away from the winterless north. Kit & Sue

  10. Hi Room 3 at Waihi East School - here are the answers to your questions. Thanks for taking an interest in my trip :-)

Lachlan and Daniel: My trip finishes in Bluff at the bottom of the South Island on the 31st March.

Josh: The temperature on 90 Mile Beach was probably about 22 deg and it was really windy.

Ashleigh & Sabrina: 90 Mile Beach is actually about 70km long I think?

Andrew: I'm taking the InterIsland Ferry across to the South Island. It would have been great to sail or kayak but maybe that will be another adventure at another time?

Taleb: Thanks for the good luck - my legs are pretty good so far but the bit that sits on my bike seat is a bit tender!

Taylor and Luke: Very good question... I'd have to take another route but it would throw things out a bit if the detour was really long! Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Kayla & Sabrina: No, I don't ride at night. I like to look at the view and I think it would be a bit dangerous - it would be nice and cool though.

Thanks for all the questions guys. Sorry I haven't got to them sooner but I've been falling asleep really early and haven't had a chance till now.

  11. Thanks Buttz

It wasn't too bad hiding behind the Bighorn but it probably took 6 months off the life of my bike!
    Catch you next week.
